When a woman gets pregnant, she will feel changes in her body for the new life forming inside her womb. One of the things they will notice is the divarication of the recti, where they could feel the separation of abdominal muscles to adjust to the uterus growth before giving birth. Aside from having a post partum belly, complications might happen, like the following:

PELVIC PAIN

Pelvic pain happens while giving birth, causing uneasiness in the pelvis. You will know that you have this if you experience bloating, menstrual cramps, painful urination, or bowel issues. And to lessen the pain, you can do some diastasis recti exercises at home.

CONSTIPATION

Constipation is one of the complications of the divarication of the recti. It is easy to recognise because it concerns bowel movement. It might be because of ageing, digestive disorder, hormonal changes, lacking water intake, or lack of fibre.

URINARY INCONTINENCE

Urinary incontinence is known in Singapore because it is common in some women who newly gave birth. There are two types of urinary incontinence, and those are temporary and persistent.

Temporary urinary incontinence concerns your lifestyle. You should watch the foods you eat, the drinks, and even medications. Everything about your intake is under this type. Be mindful when it comes to caffeine, alcohol, vitamin C, and chocolate.

Persistent urinary incontinence is more on hormonal changes. It happens to people who underwent menopause, pregnancy, ageing, enlarged prostate, and childbirth.

HERNIA

A hernia does not happen to anyone and for severe cases only. Surgery is helpful to women who experience this, so no further risks or complications might occur. You will see it on the groin parts and the abdomen.

Continue checking your health even after childbirth. Look for postnatal care in Singapore or visit Orchard Clinic’s website to see all the offers and services for new mothers.
